Icewind Dale II Undead Targos Modification Westley Weimer \/ Release 6 \/ https://weidu.org Table of Contents ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I. About II. Installation III. Component: Undead Targos III. Component: Tougher Torak IV. Known Bugs V. Thanks VI. FAQ VII. Changes Section I. About ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Undead Targos Mod adds the following component to IWD2: (01) The Town of Targos is now attacked by undead monsters (and some minor goblins). Still designed for Level 1 Parties, but no longer a walk in the park. Allows you to complete the Targos fedex quests more rapidly. Kinda light on innovative plot devices, but I was just playing around. (02) Tougher Torak Basically, this will make your next run through the otherwise-boring tutorial chapter slightly more exciting. Section II. Installation ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ IWD2 is required. It should work fine with any WeiDU mod. See the webpage for details. Unzip the main EXE file into your IWD2 main directory. This is normally: C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Icewind Dale II\ Run (click on) "Setup-Targos.exe". First, pick your favorite language. Currently available: American English Spanish (translated by The_Exorcist, Clan DLAN, www.clandlan.cjb.net) French (translated by Graoumf) Then choose which components you would like to install. You may always uninstall them later by re-running "Setup-Targos.exe". You *do* need to start a new game to take advantage of anything you installed. The components should install correctly for international players who have both DIALOG.TLK and DIALOGF.TLK. Section III. Undead Targos ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You don't really wanted to be spoiled, do you? If you find that the new foes are too tough for you, try talking to the people in town. They may have things to help you out. Plot Speeding: you can pick up Viera's Prow in the boat just to the right of the lighthouse before asking about it. There is a flywheel thingy on the ground near Tamewater -- you can pick it up early if you like. You can ask Koluhm for the translation before Shawford wants it, etc. Basically, you can do everything "in advance" except for the Iron Collar bit. The roleplaying here is thin, but it does save time! OK, here's the full spoiler explanation. The normal 4-hit-point, -4 luck goblins have been replaced by 3 hit-dice skeletons. Unlike basically everything else in IWD2, all of their equipment drops when they die. I recommend a cleric that can Turn Undead (remember: it's based on Charisma!). Some subset of the improved turning feat, a 20 CHR and being level 2 should allow you turn some of these baddies. A Druid can also come in handy. The top level of the big warehouse has a skeleton cleric as well as normal skeletons. Watch out for his disabling spells. In the lower level, the Rukwurm and Ulek have been replaced by wights. Yes, this is really for level one parties. Be creative. Blunt weapons are good. Slings rule (they get the strength bonus and you can use the Rapid Shot feat). When you deliver the healing potion to Brieg, be ready for a fight. One of your main opponents will appear for a minute to raise Brohn's Shade. I recommend magic weapons or spells. Then there's the interlude. Be sure to talk to Ulbrec's Wife, Koluhm, the Priest in the Pavillion, and Isherwood for helpful items. Now it's time for the big fight. Caballus is now a "normal" 9th level Necromancer (created using the same rules and spell tables your characters use). Yes, your now-second-level party can deal with it. He has cast an overarching spell on the area -- his goblin minions will rise up as undead slaves when you kill them. Vghotan is now Spectral -- it's much harder to hit him. Ghotrag's axe has a much larger reach in his hands. Finally ... well, let's not give it away. Special note: the game auto-saves at the start of this battle *and* just before the first with Caballus. If Caballus is killing you, reload the recent save a few times. If you find that you just can't do it, go back to the "before the whole battle started" save and pick new spells or whatnot. Gripe: As a Necromancer, Caballus cannot cast Enchantment spells. That takes out just about everything good at the fifth level (charm, chaos, etc.). In addition, he can't cast Illusion spells (like Mirror Image). Despite this, he's still a tough nut to crack. Section III. Tougher Torak ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This component makes Torak (the leader of the Token Brusque Clan) a slightly more difficult foe by giving him five half-orc spellcasters. The spellcasters coordinate, casting buffs on Torak (like haste and protection from arrows) and harmful spells on the party members. The amount of loot you receive is also slightly increased (notably, quite a few low-quality mage robes put in an appearance). Torak himself is also improved slightly. All six of the main enemies (i.e., Torak, the spellcasters) are fifth-level characters created using the standard party creation rules (e.g., you could make a party in IWD2 that looked just like them). They use the same attributes, feats, skills and spell memorization rules you do. Section IV. Known Bugs ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm sure some will crop up soon. Section V. Thanks ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Special thanks to our translators: The_Exorcist, Clan DLAN, www.clandlan.cjb.net Graoumf This mod was written using an excellent utility: Near Infinity I recommend it. Section VI. FAQ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ No real FAQs yet. Send me some email with questions. Q: How can I cast Sunbeam? A: You need a Druid or a Priest of Lathander. You might also be able to get away with a Thief with the Use Magic Items skill. Note that unlike BG2's Sunray, this one sticks around for a long time and continues to burn. It's really evil. Q: Team Caballus is handing me my head on a platter. How can I take care of those undead? A: Get the arrows from Isherwood. Optionally, use blunt attacks on the skeleton-like ones and slashing attacks on the zombie-like ones. Q: Torak's spellcasters are eating me for breakfast. Help! A: Try to disrupt the ones that are bothering you the most with ranged weapon attacks (or spells like magic missile). Personally, I find the Invoker and the Enchanter the most annoying of the lot. Web is also quite strong here. Emma Moonblade will help you fight if you lead them to her. Q: I've been energy drained! A: Oswald sells an infinite number of potions of restoration. Q: I need more help. A: Check out the file targos\HINTS-Targos.txt. Section VII. Changes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Release 1: * Initial public release.
